Searches for custom software grew 38% in Mexico over the past year. The reason isn't theoretical: more and more companies are confirming that no commercial SaaS can absorb their particular operation. This article gathers seven real cases that Four Sides Group has built or continues to evolve, anonymized to protect each client's confidentiality but with figures and processes that can be verified in a diagnostic session. The longest-standing client on the list has been in a continuous partnership for 14 years, since 2011.
Each example follows the same structure: industry, operational problem, system built and impact metric. The goal isn't to sell — it's to give operations and finance leaders concrete reference points before they make a decision.
1. Manufacturing · 5 SAP licenses scaled to 60+ users on the shop floor
Industry: furniture manufacturing for national retail chains.
Problem: the company's SAP Business One had 5 licenses. Extending it to the 60+ shop-floor operators was not viable due to cost. Floor data was captured on paper and keyed in at the end of each shift, with errors and delays.
Solution: Four Sides Group built a proprietary layer with bidirectional SAP B1 integration through its own SDK. 60+ users capture data on the floor in real time with tablets; the data syncs to SAP without purchasing additional licenses.
Metric: 5 → 60+ users working with SAP data on the floor. The project paid for itself in less than a year.
2. Financial services · Multi-entity control across 4 legal entities
Industry: financial operation serving both individuals and companies under mixed business logic.
Problem: 4 legal entities with compliance, tracking and financial control spread across separate systems. Month-end consolidation took days, with a risk of discrepancies.
Solution: a multi-entity, multi-RFC platform (RFC is Mexico's taxpayer ID) with per-entity traceability, automatic consolidation and differentiated executive dashboards. ISO 9001:2015 certified processes.
Metric: month-end close cut from days to hours, with document traceability per tax entity.
3. Sports clubs · An ecosystem of 60+ integrated modules
Industry: a private club in Mexico City with thousands of active memberships.
Problem: what started as a membership system needed to evolve into a complete technology ecosystem: reservations, finance, access control, member communications and regulatory reporting.
Solution: a continuous technology partnership since 2011. Today the ecosystem integrates 60+ systems that are maintained and evolved under ISO 9001:2015 certified processes.
Metric: 14 years of continuous partnership · 60+ modules in production.
4. Foreign trade · Multi-country importer with native CFDI 4.0
Industry: multi-country import and distribution (Mexico, United States, Europe).
Problem: manual consolidation of 3 systems to comply with CFDI 4.0 (Mexico's electronic invoicing standard) in Mexico and with local regulations in each country of origin. Regulatory risk and hours lost at every close.
Solution: a single platform with traceability by tax and customs entity. It natively complies with RGCE Rule 1.4.14 (Regla 1.4.14) of Mexico's General Foreign Trade Rules. Automatic consolidation.
Metric: 3 → 1 consolidated system. 80% less month-end closing work.
5. Industrial maintenance · Real-time multi-plant CMMS
Industry: multi-plant industrial operation with thousands of critical assets.
Problem: paper maintenance work orders, reports lagging by days, machine stoppages without historical context.
Solution: a custom CMMS with mobile capture, predictive planning and executive dashboards by plant and by asset. Integrated with the corporate ERP.
Metric: real-time operational visibility · traceable maintenance cost per asset.
6. Law firms · High-volume case file management
Industry: a law firm specializing in regulatory compliance.
Problem: thousands of case files in parallel spreadsheets, with no deadline tracking or clear assignment of responsibility. Internal audits took weeks of manual searching.
Solution: a custom case and filing management system with a deadline engine, assignment, digital case files and dashboards by owner.
Metric: internal audits cut from weeks to hours · zero missed deadlines without a prior alert.
7. Enterprise multi-entity · A platform unifying 4 legal entities
Industry: a corporate group with financial, commercial and service operations under 4 separate tax entities.
Problem: executive reports for the board were assembled manually every month, combining data from separate systems for each legal entity. Total time: 5 person-days per close.
Solution: a multi-entity platform with automatic consolidation, bidirectional ETL with the corporate ERP and one-click executive reports. Security model by legal entity.
Metric: executive reporting cut from 5 person-days to 30 automated minutes.
The most common mistake we see when companies evaluate SaaS before going custom
The seven operations above have something in common: all of them first evaluated a generic SaaS or ERP, and it didn't fit. The typical trap is assuming the SaaS "will adapt" through configuration. In complex operations, configuration only goes as far as the vendor's roadmap allows — and critical workflows are left out, running in Excel or parallel spreadsheets. Custom software doesn't compete with SaaS on the standard 70%: it complements or replaces it in the 30% where competitive differentiation lives.
Does your operation fit one of these seven patterns?
